Holly has fast become one of my nearest and dearest friends. Sadly, in just a few days she will have to kiss her husband, Nathan, goodbye and send him off on a year long deployment. If you’re a military family, you know how hard it is to “hold down the fort” in the absence of our service member, but life will and does go on. The night we took these photos was beautiful and we had a lot of fun playing around and even little “S” found mini hermit crabs to entertain us with. The love this family shares comes through in these photos so well. I’m pretty sure my favorite part was sunset, when they caught me off guard and all turned to watch the “sun go to bed”. Sweet, sweet moment! Love these guys!!

PLEASE, be safe Nathan! We’ll miss your mug around here, but I’ll help take care of your girls as best I can in your absence!!

It seems like yesterday, and then it doesn’t. In 2007, I had the honor to photograph this beautiful couple on their wedding day. Well, actually…we had a number of shoots prior to that with their engagement session (which had to be reshot, due to HORRID winds in Pensacola) and Sara’s bridal pics, as well. For all of the couples I have worked with, they are definitely at the top as a favorite! When Sara contacted me to let me know Doug was coming to Hawaii…I was SO excited to see them! Really…what are the odds? We met in Pensacola, FL; her bridals in College Station, TX; their wedding was held in Houston, TX…and I get to see them again four years later for his return from deployment in Hawaii! Gotta love the Navy!

Welcome Home Doug! It was great to see the both of you! I hope you both enjoyed some down time here in the islands!!

In my opinion, there is no greater joy in the world, than being a mother. Knowing that I am personally responsible for another little person, and helping to guide them into and through the world…there isn’t anything else in the world that I take more seriously than my job as a mother. Now bear with me…you made need a tissue…

This mommy has added to that dedication and is making the ultimate sacrifice of serving, dedicating herself to making sure that her babies continue to live a free and peaceful life in our beautiful country. In making that dedication, she will be leaving them for a period of time to serve in a far away land. This is where I have nothing by the utmost respect and admiration for her. I have watched my husband leave for months on end and have felt the pain in my heart for my children as they watch him go…but I don’t know that I could actually “put on the boots” and leave them when my country called.

“S” you are my hero! Be safe and come home soon!
